Good horror comics, like good horror movies, are surprisingly hard to find. This one works so damn well because it keeps it simple.
Town in Alaska. 30 days of night. Vampire goldmine.
It's being made into a movie and you can see why as soon as you begin reading: basically, it looks like one. The art is unusual and incredible looking; the use of colour (or lack thereof) is striking.
Steve Niles has taken a very basic idea and turned it frightening.
The plot is kept simple - a piece of narrative advice many other writers could do well to follow - and the dialogue is snappy. You feel like you're watching something happen in front of your eyes, and that's testament to every aspect of the story's production.
Read this before you the movie comes out. You won't regret it. |
